City show returns with 90s nostalgia theme

Visitors to the Worcester Show are being invited to take a trip down memory lane with a theme chosen this year of "I Grew Up in the 90s".

Organisers said that whether people were team Blur or Oasis, or just loved the feel-good vibes of the decade, there was something for everyone at the event at Pitchcroft on 10 August.

Councillor Jabbar Riaz, chair of Worcester City Council's communities committee, said the show celebrated the city at its best and always had a "fantastic festival atmosphere".

This year BBC Hereford & Worcester will also be bringing local bands to the show, and Rhidian Jones, executive editor, said some of the most talented local artists would be performing.

'Bringing city together'

The one-day event celebrates local produce, horticulture, crafts and community and attracts more than 20,000 people each year, organisers said.

The 90s theme has been chosen to tie in with the summer exhibition by Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, which has revisited the days of Cool Britannia, Spice Girls, Pokemon and Lara Croft.

Events include entertainment and food, while competition classes will play a big part and feature over 170 categories, from flowers and photography to handicrafts and culinary creations.

The local Ukrainian community group will be there with colourful displays and traditional food, as will the Worcestershire England Filipino Association, while Worcester Mela will showcase a colourful mix of cultural performances.

The BBC will have two stages, the BBC Hereford & Worcester Main Stage which will offer a wide variety of musical styles to keep the crowd dancing, and the BBC Stage with a laid-back atmosphere where up-and-coming artists can shine.

Mr Jones said: "It's a day that brings the city together, and we're proud to some of our most talented local artists by bringing them to our stages. It's going to be a great day."
