Mark Hughes has had a glittering football career.

Football's in his DNA and it's why he is celebrating a win at Barrow like some of his triumphs with Manchester United in his playing days.

Carlisle have a win and they have hope. Two things that any er of any team craves.

Carlisle United boss Mark Hughes told Sky Sports:

"We're delighted with the win. It was difficult managing the game, there were a lot of high balls a lot of balls whacked over our defensive line. We had to defend manfully, every one of us, and thankfully we've scored a goal which has taken the game away from them.

"Fitness has been an issue for us. A lot of lads came in in the January window. Some hadn't played for a while or had been dealing with injuries. A lot of the guys weren't at the same level and we've been able to manage the game out tonight.

"In previous games we knew some guys couldn't last 90 minutes so we've been changing the team just to show that we have that freshness to enable us to see games out.

"Everyone's worked to a good level and everyone's delighted in the dressing room tonight."

So Carlisle do the derby double over Barrow this season.

Their league hoodoo at the hands of the rivals continues. No league win against Carlisle since 1960 .

Carlisle United goalkeeper Gabriel Breeze told Sky Sports:

"I'm enjoying it a lot. If I wasn't here, I'd be in the stands with the fans. It's good to win this game and I just enjoy playing at the minute.

"We'll take a lot of confidence from this - the fact we can grind results out and not concede.

"This club means a hell of a lot to me. "

Carlisle United captain Sam Lavelle told Sky Sports:

"It's a massive game. The fans have been unbelievable. Tonight was about scrapping first and then playing because we've got quality but sometimes we've missed that fight this season.

"It's about belief and hopefully that anxiety in front of goal has gone. We've created chances for weeks now and not got what we deserved. Finally we've scored that goal and hopefully it settles everyone down.

[On Gabriel Breeze winning man of the match] "He is quality. On a bobbly pitch he held onto them. It's a breakthrough season and he deserves it."

Don't take chances and you don't win games.

Barrow had guilt-edge chances and they didn't rise to the occasion.

We knew this was a big game in League Two and the table shows it.

Carlisle finally have a win to shout about and they are now level on points with Morecambe and only two points shy of Tranmere.

Does this give them the momentum they have been desperately seeking for so long?

Suddenly the likes of Accrington and Harrogate are a little bit back in the mix as well in the relegation battle.

When you're looking at the league, the two points are huge. It suddenly makes everything better and believable.

The performance we wanted with tackling and blocks. It's not everything but it's important we build on this now.

It's an improvement. The signs were there that we're getting there and being more resilient on Saturday.
