West Ham boss David Moyes, in his news conference, has just said: "I'm a winner and disappointed we didn't get something out of the game.

"I thought the young players did really well and recovered after losing an early goal.

"I'm always happy to give young players a chance but they have to earn the right to play and none of them let us down - they did a great job."

On the rest of the tournament, he added: "I'm really looking forward to it.

"At the start of the campaign if you had said we would have European football after Christmas I would've been really pleased but to win the group was very good.

"At the moment West Ham are a big team and people will be worried . We're a good team and if we can take on Champions League finalists and winners and give them a run for their money then whoever we get we will give them a good game."

In West Ham's 42nd European game (excluding qualifiers), this was the first time they started with two teenagers - Sonny Perkins and Jamal Baptiste.

West Ham's Mark Noble speaking to BT Sport: "Incredibly proud of them [the academy players]. I've seen them grow up from probably 11 years of age. It's a credit to the club for the players to get the club to this position, qualifying with a game to spare and get our academy players on is fantastic all round.

"The coaches in the academy, all the way up, have done a fantastic job with these players and they deserve credit for that.

"After the wonder goal they scored after three minutes, I thought they were fantastic. They kept talking, the full-backs attacked really well and Jamal Baptiste and Aji Alese were fantastic in the box. All in all it's not the result we wanted but to get that many academy boys on the pitch is a credit to everyone.

"There was not a lot in it to be honest. It probably wasn't the most exciting game but it's an amazing achievement for the players."

On possibly facing Barcelona in the knockout stages: "What a draw that would be for everyone. Just because Barcelona dropped out the Champions League doesn't mean they're a bad side. They have some incredible players. I'm excited to see who we get because the boys will be really looking forward to it."

West Ham suffered their first home defeat in seven matches across all competitions, with this their first loss at the London Stadium since the start of October (2-1 v Brentford).

Dinamo Zagreb clinched their first ever away win against English opposition, having been winless in nine prior to today (D2 L7).

Dinamo Zagreb have progressed through the group stages of the Europa League in each of the last three seasons they have been in them.

West Ham's Aji Alese speaking to BT Sport: "It's a little bitter-sweet. We'd have preferred to get a draw or a win but to play my first European game is an amazing achievement.

"We found out on Monday that we might be [playing]. We found out yesterday that we were definitely starting and from then we had to prepare and get our minds ready for the game.

"It was nerves at first but then I thought about it, my European debut with maybe 60,000 in the stadium, live on BT, then I got very excited."

On playing with his Under 23 team-mates: "We have played very well for the Under 23's this season and we're all good friends, so to do it with them is even better.

"Sometimes it can be hard when you feel you're doing well and feel you might not get your chance. You just have to work hard, that's all you can do."

This was West Ham's first defeat in major European competition since losing 3-0 to Palermo in September 2006.

That was so long ago that Palermo have since went bust and now play in Serie C (having won Serie D in 2019-20).

West Ham are just the fourth English side to progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League as group winners in their first appearance in the tournament after Manchester City (2010-11), Arsenal (2017-18) and Leicester (2020-21).

The back four were the exact same back four in a 2-0 win over Gillingham - and four of a back five in a 2-1 win over Ipswich.

I was kind of joking earlier when I said this was their Papa John's Trophy team, but turns out it was.

West Ham back four tonight and forward Sonny Perkins all played for the club in a Papa John's Trophy defeat at Colchester in September.

A home loss for West Ham but a great experience for seven of their youngsters getting valuable match time.

The Dinamo Zagreb players run to about 100 of their fans in the corner of the stadium and reflect on a job well done.
