Merseyside Police has just issued the following statement:

"We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre. We were ed at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.

"The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene.

"We will issue more updates as we have them."

I caught up with former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar who described scenes in the city today as "absolutely magnificent".

"This can only happen in one city - and that is Liverpool," he said.

"This supersedes any [parade] I've been on, and I've been on six.

"It's absolutely magnificent for the players, and for them to see the turnout.

"These numbers are absolutely mindblowing. Players will look at this and say 'wow'.

"That's Liverpool Football Club, the sea of red - unbelievable".

This is the view the players had of crowds in Liverpool as the parade bus ed the city's Liver Building.

I'm on the parade press bus and it's been a phenomenal turnout of fans across the city.

Excuse The Beatles reference... it's been a long day!

Older readers may well also a popular game called Spot The Ball in which entrants were invited to put an X on a photograph from a football match, guessing where the ball should have been.

Anyway - it got us thinking about a reboot -- spot the Liverpool players amid the billowing red smoke from all of the flares that have been lit across Liverpool.

Liverpool city centre is full of red as the bus nudges gently along the Strand - the end of the 10-mile trophy parade route that has taken more than three-and-a-half hours.

As superstar DJ and producer Calvin Harris (a mate of Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk, by the way) blasts his tunes from the players' open-top bus, we can see red smoke from the flares, fireworks and pyrotechnics flowing out and up into the air.

Huge confetti cannons cover the crowd in red paper tape as the Premier League champions by the Liver Building.

Virgil van Dijk lifts the Premier League trophy to the crowd as he throws his head back while belting out You'll Never Walk Alone along with the crowd.

Whether you're a Red, a Blue, or none of the above... it's hard not to be captivated by the emotion of the occasion.

The fireworks are still going off and the crowds are following the bus along The Strand

I keep saying this, but I have never, ever seen anything like this in my home city.

Just incredible.

Fireworks are set off as the parade makes its way along the Strand and people are packed on either side of the road.

Despite the grey clouds, the waterfront is looking glorious in red, matching the smoke from the dozens of flares which have been let off.

We're hearing that the open-top bus parade has now reached The Strand in Liverpool city centre.

It's a suitably grand thoroughfare on Liverpool's waterfront. Liverpool fans have waited eight or nine hours to bagsy their prime spot. Now is their reward.

Many of those on the side of the road say they can barely see through the thick red smoke from the dozens of flares which have been let off.

There are so many people in the city of Liverpool today, it's fantastic to see. Everyone is in great spirits.

Crowds of people have been streaming along Ranelagh Street and Hanover Street towards the waterfront.

We've obviously had homecoming parades in the city before, and I've covered many of them, but we've got so many people from near and far this time - this one just feels so much bigger.

I've covered Liverpool parades before - 2001 and 2005 for example, 2019 too. But I've never, ever seen anything like this!

Five years ago under Jurgen Klopp Liverpool won the Premier League trophy, but none of the fans could share the moment with the players [due to the Covid restrictions].

So today is about celebrating 2020 AND 2025.

I often say that Manchester United ruined my childhood when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge... and then Jurgen Klopp came along and we had the revolution!

Liverpool are back on their perch! And we're going to see a lot more days like this in years to come.

A lot of Scos have grown up with strories from their parents and grandparents about the days of Shankly, Paisley, Dalglish etc.

Well today is this generation's day - for them to talk about for years to come.

We're in danger of running out of superlatives, to be honest...

Cunard's newest ship, the Queen Anne, arrives on the Mersey as the open-top bus parade to celebrate the Reds' Premier League win makes its way to Liverpool's Waterfront.

The ship's arrival in the city which Cunard describe as her "spiritual home" marks the start of celebrations marking 185 years since the cruise liner's first transatlantic crossing departed the port in 1840.

She was due to arrive at 12:00 to be in plenty of time for the victory parade but was delayed by strong winds.

Better a bit late than never!

Liverpool fans Harry and Oli, who have travelled from Maidstone in Kent for the trophy parade, said they "wouldn’t have missed it for the world".

"The difficult journey and wet weather have not been able to dampen our spirits," said Harry.

"It’s been great to see a community of fans together here today in full chorus.

"You'll Never Walk Alone!"

I have never ever seen the Strand like this. It is insane.

Fans will struggle to find a space here now unless they are already in position.

Side roads including Water Street are packed and lined with fans.

Every five minutes, fans along the Strand are breaking out in song. Excitement is building as the crowds learn that the players' open-top bus has reached the Olympia.

Ordinarily that journey of about two miles would only take a few minutes... this afternoon? might take a while longer!

This is the view that people lining the streets of Liverpool have had of the open-top bus as it parades through the city.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot and players on board have been filming the thousands of people who have lined the streets to greet them.

Fans aren’t missing the action - or the rain - at Blackstock market.

The atmosphere is electric and lots of ers are excited to greet the bus later on Leeds Street.

Manager Emily Campbell, who is a Reds fan herself, said people were camping out last night to make sure they got in today.

She said it had been a "mental couple of days" but it had been brilliant to be part of the celebrations!

Fans have created all manner of tributes to their heroes for this parade - homemade cups, coloured-in banners, flags of every colour (as long as it's red) - but for one er, the way to celebrate was obvious.

Hats off to you, mate - sometimes, keeping it simple says it all.

Liverpool are now level with their old enemies from across the M62, Manchester United, when it comes to holding the record for the most top-flight league trophies.

While the Red Devils are comfortably ahead on the Premier League trophy front, football of course did exist before the advent of the Premier League in 1992... and Liverpool won 18 Football League first division titles!

I'm here on The Strand which will be the final point for the parade.

The bus is still maybe a couple of hours away from arriving here but you would not know as the atmosphere is absolutely electric.

There's not a space to be had anywhere.

We've already a rendition of Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, we've had fireworks set off from the top of the Liver Building, and there is currently red confetti flying across The Strand.

If you aren't lucky enough to have a season ticket or be able to get to the games to see Arne Slot's team lift the trophy... this is definitely the next best thing.

Today is about all the fans - everyone is sharing this magical moment and everyone will it forever and a day.

Sometimes you need a bit of perspective to truly grasp the enormity of crowds.

If only we had a helicopter to grab us some footage...
