Liverpool boss Arne Slot on Joe Gomez returning to the bench for Monday's defeat at Brighton: "He wasn't ready but there was a spot on the bench where I could show my gratitude towards him for what he has done on the pitch for us.

"Gomez is one of the nicest players you can meet but he is also inspiring his team-mates when he is not playing.

"He has more impact on our success than the outside might know. I am hoping he can play some minutes on Sunday, if he ticks all the boxes."

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on the drastic difference in his team's home and away form:

"It is something for sure, during the short break, we have to analyse. I also said many times I like to analyse game by game. Sometimes we played away and we didn't deserve to lose or even draw. But for sure if we struggle away, there is a reason why, and we are going to use the break to understand the reason why.

"On the other side, at home, we won almost all the games. So, there is also a good part as well."

"Many have won the league but not many have won multiple seasons in a row.

"Not everyone has that elite mentality. Look at Mohamed Salah, who has been at that type of elite mentality for seven years in a row. He was the fittest when we arrived at pre-season. You need that to become a serial winner."

"It is the hardest trophy to win as cup trophies you can win by lucky draws or be lucky in a few games - like winning a penalty shootout.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on if he will play Trent Alexander-Arnold for his final Reds game this weekend: "I have not decided on that one yet. This should be the day that everyone should enjoy. It has been 35 years that Liverpool fans have been waiting for this moment.

"I am hoping we can add a moment like Tottenham when we won the league. Everyone that is in the stadium deserves to be there, which includes Trent, who has been part of a successful season and successful years at this club.

"I have a lot of trust that our fans will deliver like against Tottenham again."

Liverpool celebrated clinching the title as they beat Tottenham 5-1 at home on 27 April, but Alexander-Arnold was booed in their most recent home game against Arsenal after confirming he will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on the importance of Enzo Fernandez amid links to Real Madrid:

"Enzo is very important for us. He is one of our captains, he is one of the leaders. This season has been very good and he can be even better next season, starting from the first day. [I've] nothing to say about speculation, his focus is on us and that is the most important thing."

On whether the Argentine midfielder is staying next season, Maresca simply said "yes".

"At this moment he is a Forest player and I have no doubt he is going to try his best for his team and we just need to focus on our players and our team."

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is now speaking to the media and was asked about Reds forward Mohamed Salah saying it is his best chance of winning the Ballon d'Or: "A lot of hopes. It is completely true as he has had very, very good seasons here. This one probably stands out in of numbers and we won the league.

"He is not the only player who has had a great season. If there is ever a chance then it is this season."

On reaching a final with "luck", Liverpool boss Arne Slot felt his side did not get any when they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris St-Germain.

The Reds topped the league phase of the new-look competition, winning seven of their eight games, including victory over Real Madrid.

"We were very unlucky that we had to play PSG in March, because in this country we don't have a winter break," Slot said.

"So we had to play from November to March with all these Real Madrid games and City games... all these tough games in between.

"And then at the end of that period we had to play one team that can play just as intense as we can, only they had a winter break and we were in the end of a four-month period.

"So I think if we could have played them in April, that would have been better."

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says excuses are "for teams that don't win the league", and it is "nice" his side won the Premier League so he does not have to rely on them.

Reflecting on leading the club to a 20th top-flight title in his first year since succeeding Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman told BBC Sport of his pride it had been achieved despite some challenges.

"All these excuses you could give to Liverpool... with us maybe not spending... or not bringing new players in, or taking over from someone," he said.

"All these things are excuses for teams that don't win the league, and it's nice that if you have all these excuses, that you don't have to use them, but you still just won it."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has highlighted the fact Liverpool had secured 82 points when they won the title, while the Gunners managed 89 and 84 points in each of the past two years but finished runners-up.

Asked about the Spaniard's comments, Reds boss Arne Slot said: "Everybody has the right to have his own opinion... what he meant was: 'Sometimes you have to be in the right place at the right time.'

"I totally agree with him on that. Only not in a Premier League season. So in a Champions League, FA Cup, World Cups, then it is about 'in the right time in the right place'.

"In a season that's so long, then normally the best team wins the league."
